XR NYC Blocks Helipad, New York Climate Actions Amount a Dozen Arrests Wednesday

Protestors warned that there are “no luxury emissions on a dead planet.” The main entrance was blocked for 90 minutes and 6 people were arrested.
Laura Robertson, an Extinction Rebellion activist, said: “Why are we doing this? Because nothing else has worked. There have been twenty-seven COP conferences. The ominous IPCC reports have fallen on deaf ears. Politicians continue to approve new fossil fuel infrastructure, locking in emissions for decades. There is no time left, ecologically, for the super rich to continue pumping out emissions. There is no time left for outsized carbon footprints.”

A few miles away, Carol, 48, another extinction rebellion activist was being released from jail for disrupting Blackrock Bank.

She said, “We demand that Blackrock get out of the business of the fossil fuel and other forms of extractivism and colonialism, including debt colonialism. I’m very concerned about climate change. I'm terrified of what our future holds if our government and corporate leaders continue to stick their heads in the sand.” the mother of one continued, “They can’t just make little tweaks to the system and think that will make a difference. We have out of control wildfires around the globe, flooding, displacement, and refugee crises are horrific. We've made major parts of the world uninhabitable already. Climate makes every disaster worse.”
