XR Netherlands Locks down for A Hot ING Summer Tour

The group had locked down at the ING bank, with demands to cut ties with fossil fuels. Six had made a ring using concrete tubing and lockdown devices that could not be removed easily. Finally, the police began to use tools to break down their devices. The police chose not to arrest them, as the threat was reduced once the devices were removed.

This protest is part of a “Hot ING Summer Tour.”

Money Rebellion, part of Extinction Rebellion, has organized this series of protests. They will target the Dutch bank, ING, for pouring billions into the fossil fuel industry every year. Every Saturday until September 21, Extinction Rebellion will hold actions at one or more ING branches. According to XR, hundreds of activists have joined the so-called ”Hot ING Summer Tour” so far.

These actions can be "uncomfortable, but always peaceful,"  the spokesperson said, "We have nothing against the employees in the local ING branches," they continued, "Their employer is doing everything to make them believe that ING is a sustainable company, but it is not. We want to inform employees, customers, and passers-by about the billions of euros ING invests in oil and gas every year. And how that contributes to the climate crisis."
