World Berlin Clock Painted Orange Supporters of Letzte Generation climbed the clock and hung banners

Irene von Drigalski, 66, spokesperson for the Last Generation, said, “The World Clock is now a memorial to the global race against time that we as humanity are in danger of losing. But the success of protests in the Netherlands gives us hope.”

The spokesperson references the 27 day blockade that took place recently in the Netherlands. After 27 days of blocking the A12, a politically relevant highway in the Hague, the Extinction Rebellion demonstrators’ pressure resulted in a motion being introduced in their house to decide on their demand. A few days later, the motion passed. If the political legislation follows through now, it will cost the fossil fuel industry over 40 billion dollars. The civil resistance action was also historic, in that it took 9000 arrests and drew a huge swath of support from the population, eventually. Letzte Generation even joined them for a weekend last month.

A co-founder of Letzte Generation, Henning Jeschke, 23, added, “That’s the proof! Civil resistance works! We publicly call for people to occupy the Street of June 17th in Berlin on    October 28th, 2023 at 12 p.m. We won't let the government get away with fossil subsidies anymore!”
The significance of the fifty year old clock is that it can tell the time for 148 countries (the amount of countries at the time of its inception) The wikipedia page for the clock now includes photos of the protest - the race against time to save humanity continues.
