Vicar Arrested 3x in 3 days with Just Stop Oil

From Christian Climate Action:

He has been taking part in the ‘slow marches’, organized by Just Stop Oil in recent months, which involve clusters of people walking slowly down the road in London.

Yesterday was the hottest day since records began, and yet our government is determined to carry on with business as usual. It is clear that we need to do something drastic if we are to bring about the changes needed.

Bill explains why he decided to take part in the action: “As a Christian I am frequently reminded of the command to love my neighbor as myself. In obedience to this I am called to sound the alarm about the climate crisis; but always in a way which is nonviolent, consistent with the teaching and example of Jesus. Christian teaching encourages respect for authority that is in line with God’s will, but resistance to those in conflict with this higher law of love. The authorities are failing us by turning off the alarm rather than addressing the problem that triggered it. So to be faithful I need to say no to the police officer and keep on walking. I will be arrested and taken into police custody”

“What are our responsibilities at this time? Because of the fossil fuel industry, we are facing horrors of a magnitude never before experienced in our existence. Our government continues to lead us to the edge of no return. We must stand up and defend ourselves. No one else is going to do it. It must be us, if we want to live.
Our methods must be disruptive, and they must be nonviolent. Our actions are evidence-based, credible, and we have a plan. The only thing missing at this point in time is YOU!”
