Letzte Generation Paint 6 Universities
This is in conjunction with the same type of actions being carried out Just Stop Oil in the UK, where 11 universities were called out last week.
Supporters of Letzte Generation have a similar argument, from their press release, “Universities, as places of science and progress, also have a duty to communicate honestly about the current emergency situation. However, Germany's universities are still failing to take a clear position against the unconstitutional government policy. By doing so, they are violating their duty of care to students and watching as the government leads us into a future of global, economic and social collapse.
The color and poster campaigns are at the same time an invitation to students to join the protest and a confrontation with what are probably the most important questions of our time: When, if not now? Who, if not we?”
Lennart Wenzel, 27, said before he took action at the Technical University of Berlin, “Our appeal today goes not only to the federal gov-ernment Our future is currently being burned down. Our appeal goes out to the young people, to all those who will ultimately have to bear the cons-equences of the catastrophic political failure. Don't allow them to lead us to collapse! Defend yourselves! Take part in the peaceful protest!” The aerospace engineering student continued, “One scientific paper after another describes the destruction that lies ahead of us: people are starving, dying of thirst, and are being forced to leave their homes. Why should we research even more alternatives and solutions that are then consistently blocked by the government? What is a good degree worth on a planet without water or food? Our place at the moment is not in the lecture hall, but on the street!”
The group is holding talks at each respective university where they present a case of peaceful civil resistance in the climate catastrophe and invite students to learn more about the movement and start a conversation.
Join up with Declare Emergency and make Headlines in DC
Join DE This Sunday for a talk about how you can join this exciting group - and start making headlines of your own! Or at least help others do the same.
“What are our responsibilities at this time? Because of the fossil fuel industry, we are facing horrors of a magnitude never before experienced in our existence. Our government continues to lead us to the edge of no return. We must stand up and defend ourselves. No one else is going to do it. It must be us, if we want to live.
Our methods must be disruptive, and they must be nonviolent. Our actions are evidence-based, credible, and we have a plan. The only thing missing at this point in time is YOU!”
