Editor-In-Chief for Daily Rebellion Glues on with Declare Emergency
Will Regan, Editor-In-Chief for Daily Rebellion and, long time supporter of Declare Emergency, with 7 arrests and 30+ days time served, glued onto the road in DC this week in a freeway blocking action. Declare Emergency rallied nearly a dozen supporters who worked to shut down the 395 freeway for nearly two hours.
Will Regan said this in an interview with Ford Fischer on the scene, “I can't lift it up it's- super glue. Why did we do that? Basically we're in a climate emergency. We have to show that we're serious about this. You know? We're not just a bunch of anarchists. We're not crazy. We've looked at the science and 2050 is far too late. We've already seen the major effects of climate change. We're already at 420 parts per million - which is well past the safe levels. We're seeing wildfires, hurricanes and droughts. That's Just the beginning. They said the jet streams are gonna get wonky. Well they're wonky now. We had 104 degrees 2.5 miles in the in the atmosphere - up on top of a mountain in South America- in the winter. It's winter there and it's 104 Fahrenheit. So the jet streams are wonky - things are going out of control. The problem is too big for any of us to handle on our own. We're just doing everything we can to raise the alarm.”
Ford Fischer, “Are you worried they're just gonna rip your hand off the road?”
Will, “Yeah, that's definitely a concern. But I think it was more of fear beforehand. Now I'm just here worried about the climate. Really, the climate's like the bigger base problem right now. We’ve got to raise the alarm about this. Because the problem has gotten so big that we're not willing to even look at it. We've been doing the same so long. And the politicians have just gotten greedier and greedier. And the billionaires are just getting greedier and greedier. And, meanwhile, our planet is dying. We’ve basically doomed people to genocide. We’ve doomed people to a hot house Earth. The future generations are going to ask, ‘Where did New York go? Where did Los Angeles go? Where did Florida go?’ and then they're going to look at the tapes. They're going to say, ‘Wow, who is this billionaire? Who is this guy buying the Twitter or a $250 million dollar yacht? Who were these people? When the planet was on fire and they knew? When all the best scientists and all the indigenous people knew, what were the people doing? What were the good people doing?’ You know? So we don't want that future. We want to say ‘no’ to that future and imagine a better world. It's really about imaginativity right now. It's really about imagining what we can do.”
Will spent two days in DC Jail following this action. So far, 5 arrests have been made of DE supporters at day 3 of 7 for the week.
