Climate Defiance Shut Down the Lunch Meeting of Deputy National Climate Advisor Mary Repko.
Nine were arrested. This took place inside the Rayburn House Office Building of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition. This is necessary, as the Biden Administration is building new pipelines during the worst heat wave in recorded history - further proof that we’ve entered yet another echelon of climate catastrophe.
At the demonstration, members of Climate Defiance asked if the members of the meeting would publicly oppose the Willow Project. Then shirts were removed, to reveal branded Tee-Shirts reading “End Fossil Fuels.” Remarkably, a huge 10 foot banner was unfurled to further disrupt the meeting next.
Because of this bravery, rep @RoKhanna of the House commended their actions publicly on Twitter.
After demanding that the members of the meeting denounce the ridiculous fossil fuel projects, one member of Climate Defiance loudly announced, “Biden is approving fossil fuel projects faster than the Trump administration”
After a president as historically awful as Trump, many have taken for granted that Biden is a more competent president. But this point about Biden’s horrendous fossil fuel record has been brought up repeatedly. It should be addressed. The Democrats can not be the party of climate change, and also usher in an age of even greater climate chaos.
Climate Defiance has announced that this action is only the beginning, and that they are looking to go forward with more actions in the near future.
Reportedly, at press time, the 9 arrestees had been released by capitol police and made to pay fines in exchange for dropped charges.
Edit: 7-20-2023 - 2:20PM EST, According to a tweet from Climate Defiance, Summer Lee was also present and making sure the protesters were fairly treated by police.
SMALL NUMBERS, BIG IMPACT
hosted by XR NYC
September 28th, 6:30-7:30, EST
Four civil disobedience activists (including one rebel) blocked the road to the Burning Man festival. It generated hundreds of media stories.
Another rebel glued his feet to the floor of Arthur Ashe stadium and stopped a US Open semi-final game for 49 minutes. It generated thousands of media hits worldwide, inserted the topic of climate emergency where it is least seen - the sports pages. Would you like to be a part of this new wave of climate actions, where a small number of brave people can make a big impact? Come learn from these two rebels. It's not hard. It just needs a bit of pluck, a bit of creativity, and a straightforward message.

“What are our responsibilities at this time? Because of the fossil fuel industry, we are facing horrors of a magnitude never before experienced in our existence. Our government continues to lead us to the edge of no return. We must stand up and defend ourselves. No one else is going to do it. It must be us, if we want to live.
Our methods must be disruptive, and they must be nonviolent. Our actions are evidence-based, credible, and we have a plan. The only thing missing at this point in time is YOU!”
