Youth Cry For Help

This week, supporters of Last Generation, Germany, wrote “Help” on a European Parliament building in Brussels.

Students have been at the vanguard of the movement to bring climate to the forefront - but they are feeling abandoned and unheard by leadership.
Ronja, 18, said, "We are here for a very simple reason: Our future is being destroyed - we need your help! Everyone who is here with me today can vote on June 9th - …(however)... millions of children and young people are not yet allowed to do so. In the end, it is mainly old, rich people who are in control. It scares me enormously to see how people who value their money more than our lives keep coming to power."

In March, they staged a similar protest at the Chancellery in Berlin and were met with violence. This caused a public outcry - this action echoes that cry for help.

Katharina , 17, said, “People keep saying, 'We have to think about the economy too, the world isn't going to end tomorrow'. It makes me so angry to hear that. Maybe it won't end today. But the decision will be made today. And I and my generation will then have to pay the price for the fact that adults today are more worried about the economy, power and money than about our livelihoods.”

She continued, “On Sunday you are not just voting for your future, but also for our future. We all have to use our voice. And after the election we must remind those responsible of their promises and duties. We can't do it alone. Help us!”
