University of Vienna Painted

The Student Revolutions Continue in Vienna Austria. The Last Generation - Austria, spilled orange warning paint on the stairs of the University of Vienna at the Schottentor.
Press spokeswoman Marina Hagen-Canaval says, “Cogito ergo protest – the scientific consensus must lead to action, now, before it is too late.”
Jakob Dellago (25, TFM student and filmmaker), who took part today said, “I don’t want to give in to this feeling of powerlessness anymore. That’s why, together with the last generation, I’m standing in the way of the government’s deadly climate policy.”

Jakob, along with other students, emphasized that the Citizens' Climate Council had already presented the solutions in July 2022. The government still remains inactive and is endangering everyone in Austria.

Katharina, 25, studies philosophy and law at the University of Vienna said, “The climate catastrophe is not only an ecological crisis, but also a health and social crisis that affects all areas of life and knowledge. We as students must take responsibility based on our knowledge of the danger. That's why we must come together today and again and again from all disciplines to call on the government to implement the Climate Council's 93 socially responsible recommendations. Citizens have spoken with the support of science, and the government must finally listen and act up to five years will be crucial for our future.”

Student Slow March

To follow the paint action, students in Vienna engaged in a massive slow marched. This shows that the movement has a broad base of support, willing to do disruptive action. One student, Martha Kurmpeck, co-founder of the Last Generation, has currently started a four-day substitute detention in the Rossauer Lände police detention center.

Last Generation Austria is part of the A22 Network for Civil resistance, taking place in 10 countries. They’re asking that their government conform to the 93 recommendations of the citizens climate council.

“What are our responsibilities at this time? Because of the fossil fuel industry, we are facing horrors of a magnitude never before experienced in our existence. Our government continues to lead us to the edge of no return. We must stand up and defend ourselves. No one else is going to do it. It must be us, if we want to live.
Our methods must be disruptive, and they must be nonviolent. Our actions are evidence-based, credible, and we have a plan. The only thing missing at this point in time is YOU!”
