The activists, on a boat named the Greta T, were supported in their peaceful, non-violent, civil disobedience by dozens of kayaktavists hoisting “Stop Zenith” messaging and swarming the area.
Lynn Spitaleri Handlin Extinction Rebellion Supporter, and local businesswoman said, “I have written letters to editors, participated in vigils, did a healing ritual, protested at Stoel Rives, the law firm that enables Zenith, but the City continues to allow this menace in our communities. I am at my wits end, I am beyond frustrated, sad, and angry. The time to act is now, so here I am.”
The coast guard has let the activists go, after holding their boat for well over an hour. Activists were fined $2,500 for a violation of “impeding an oil tanker.” They have 45 days to respond. pic.twitter.com/h3yn3JQkj9

The boat was detained and the activists given a ticket, which they have 45 days to respond to. As a follow up, activists from multiple environmental justice orgs will converge on City Hall at 9 am on September 6th to urge the City Council cease their dirty business dealings, and once again deny the LUCS(Land Use Compatibility Statement) to Zenith.

“What are our responsibilities at this time? Because of the fossil fuel industry, we are facing horrors of a magnitude never before experienced in our existence. Our government continues to lead us to the edge of no return. We must stand up and defend ourselves. No one else is going to do it. It must be us, if we want to live.
Our methods must be disruptive, and they must be nonviolent. Our actions are evidence-based, credible, and we have a plan. The only thing missing at this point in time is YOU!”
