“STOCKHOLM, July 5 (Reuters) - Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has been charged with disobeying a police order to leave a climate protest in the southern city of Malmo on June 19, according to daily Sydsvenskan.
On the day of the incident, Thunberg wrote in an Instagram post that protesters had blocked the road for oil trucks in Malmo harbour.
"The climate crisis is already a matter of life and death for countless people. We chose to not be bystanders, and instead physically stop the fossil fuel infrastructure. We are reclaiming the future," she had said.
If convicted for disobeying a police order, Thunberg can be handed a fine or up to six months in prison.
"You have the freedom to demonstrate, but you must not demonstrate in such a way that it causes disturbances for others," prosecutor Charlotte Ottosen said, according to Sydsvenskan.

It’s unbelievable that Sweden would have the audacity to convict someone with Greta Thunberg’s reputation. She has been one of the most restrained civil disobedience advocates of the last 5 years. But now, since she was detained in Germany and now arrested in Sweden, it would appear the establishment is becoming wary.
Steven Donzinger, US Climate Lawyer, had this to say, “Love her courage in the face of the utter cowardice of Swedish authorities.”
Greta is no longer on school strike as she’s graduated from high school. However, she continues to campaign effectively for the planet and against fossil fuels, and with Friday's for the Future, the climate group she founded.
“So, we can no longer save the world by playing by the rules, because the rules have to be changed. Everything needs to change, and it has to start today. So, everyone out there, it is now time for civil disobedience. It is time to rebel.” - Greta Thunberg

It generated hundreds of media stories.Another rebel glued his feet to the floor of Arthur Ashe stadium and stopped a US Open semi-final game for 49 minutes. It generated thousands of media hits worldwide, inserted the topic of climate emergency where it is least seen - the sports pages. “What are our responsibilities at this time? Because of the fossil fuel industry, we are facing horrors of a magnitude never before experienced in our existence. Our government continues to lead us to the edge of no return. We must stand up and defend ourselves. No one else is going to do it. It must be us, if we want to live.
Our methods must be disruptive, and they must be nonviolent. Our actions are evidence-based, credible, and we have a plan. The only thing missing at this point in time is YOU!”
