In a storm of paint, Eddie disrupted his own college graduation.

Congratulations to Eddie for first - telling the truth about the climate - but also, for your accomplishment of a triple major in Philosophy, Economics and Philosophy. Also, thank you for your disruption of the snooker championship 3 months ago. Here’s what Eddie Whittingham, 25, said just before taking action, "I'm about to disrupt my own graduation ceremony. Exactly 3 months ago, I disrupted the snooker world championship. I'm taking these actions because our government has failed young people like me. They have failed to cut greenhouse gas emissions in line with science. They have failed to prepare us for the inevitable disruption that they have caused. They're driving our society towards collapse by continuing to allow new oil, gas and coal.

This is a violation of the advice of the International Energy Agency, the United Nations and thousands and thousands of climate scientists all around the world, who have been warning us for years: new fossil fuels means death. As a result, 1 billion people may be displaced from their homes by 2030.
That's 7 years away. We face a future of mass-starvation and unimaginable suffering, including here in the UK. And all of this is happening so a small handful of extremely rich people can carry on getting even richer. Universities, rather than preparing young people for this inevitable disruption, are instead upholding a status quo that is going to kill millions, if not billions of people.

That's why I'm calling on students everywhere to join us in resistance against this criminal government. What use is a university degree if you can't feed yourself? What use is an ‘education’ if society is collapsing around you? Each one of us has a choice: die quietly or get into resistance. It's now or never."

XR DC Rebels Swarmed the Lobby of Washington Gas Offices and Dropped a Massive Banner

"Since 1848, Washington Gas, has been pumping poisonous, climate-warming gas throughout the city and into resident’s homes, pursuing profit at the expense of our community. Washington Gas has attempted to conceal this legacy by planting a single tree – as if one tree will compensate for the copious amounts of methane gas. WGL pumps into the air every day. Washington Gas has no future in DC. Their 175th birthday just may be their last." - Jade Olson, Extinction Rebellion DC

SMALL NUMBERS, BIG IMPACT

hosted by XR NYC

September 28th, 6:30-7:30, EST

Four civil disobedience activists (including one rebel) blocked the road to the Burning Man festival. It generated hundreds of media stories.

Another rebel glued his feet to the floor of Arthur Ashe stadium and stopped a US Open semi-final game for 49 minutes. It generated thousands of media hits worldwide, inserted the topic of climate emergency where it is least seen - the sports pages.

Would you like to be a part of this new wave of climate actions, where a small number of brave people can make a big impact?

Come learn from these two rebels. It's not hard. It just needs a bit of pluck, a bit of creativity, and a straightforward message.

Join up with Declare Emergency and make Headlines in DC

Join DE This Sunday for a talk about how you can join this exciting group - and start making headlines of your own! Or at least help others do the same.
“What are our responsibilities at this time? Because of the fossil fuel industry, we are facing horrors of a magnitude never before experienced in our existence. Our government continues to lead us to the edge of no return. We must stand up and defend ourselves. No one else is going to do it. It must be us, if we want to live.
Our methods must be disruptive, and they must be nonviolent. Our actions are evidence-based, credible, and we have a plan. The only thing missing at this point in time is YOU!”
