7 Berlin Christmas Trees Painted Orange
Over the last two days Seven Christmas trees in Germany, including Berlin, Oldenburg, Kiel, Leipzig, Rostock, Nuremberg and Munich, were painted Orange. They used prepared fire extinguishers loaded with orange paint. The members of Letzte Generation then sat peacefully and waited to account for their action with the law in an action of non-violent civil disobedience. Sadly, their houses were then raided by police, disturbing their livelihoods.
Spokesperson Carla Hinrichs said, “one year after the house searches in December 2022, Letzte Generation private and family rooms were being searched. They were looking for paint. The affected are among others a mother of two children, who was protesting peacefully against the current destructive government policy and a secure future for her daughters. Even the children's rooms were searched by the police. The government still directs their course towards climate collapse undisturbed. To be very honest: words are failing me."
Simon Lachner , spokesman for the Last Generation said, “Amidst the flashing lights, shiny jewelry and festive atmosphere, it is easy to forget: We are racing at full speed towards catastrophe and our governments in Dubai are currently failing miserably to pull the emergency brake and the exit that is necessary for survival from fossil fuels. I ask myself, how can we look into the shining eyes of children with a clear conscience, knowing full well that they are heading for a future full of catastrophe?”
Lachner continues, “This is a time for contemplation and therefore also the time to reflect on where our priorities lie. So what is more important to us? Clinging to the constant, destructive, business-as-usual approach? Or a secure future worth living for us and our children? Let's not just talk about charity and hope, but let's bring it into our everyday lives! What you love, you protect. Charity is climate protection!”
Letzte Generation is a member of the A22 Network for Civil Resistance.
