40 Arrested in London, Holloway Road

40 supporters of Just Stop Oil were arrested today on Holloway Road, in London. Police began by pushing people out of the road, but soon, the entire march of 40 were under arrest.

Florrie, 22 is a graduate from Birmingham. She said while being taken into custody, “I really don’t want to be doing this. This is the scariest shit I’ve ever done in my whole life. But the future is far more frightening. I’m doing this to protect my younger sisters. They’re seventeen. They don’t deserve a future of violence and fear. If a bus was coming towards them, I would jump in front of it. And this is the only alternative I can see to save them from the climate crisis. Is by marching in front of a bus. And if that’s a crime, then so be it.”

George Simonson, 20, mechanical engineering student, also arrested, said, “...What the government is doing is a death sentence for my generation and I’m willing to be arrested and go to prison if there’s even a small chance of stopping it. I urge everyone to consider their position. Are we going to continue sitting on the sidelines? Or are we going to stand up like previous generations did when it was necessary to protect what we value most?”

The number of Just Stop Oil supporters arrested this last month is now past 300. Seven people have GPS tracking devices on their ankles now, and three are waiting in jail until November 30th.
Just Stop Oil is part of the A22 Network of Civil Resistance in a mad dash to save humanity. Their demand is to stop new oil and gas. .
