They remained on the road, two thirds of the way along the route from Edinburgh to Glasgow, with the race unable to continue for 55 min.

The 5 This is Rigged activists used glue and chain to hold the road, and lock down, keeping the race from continuing. Officials and police worked to remove them while cyclists took nature breaks, and stretched their legs, according to reports from Laura Weislo, cycle journalist on the scene.

Rebecca, 28, “As a trans woman, I’ve been told I’m not welcome on the cycling track by UCI. At the same time, they allow a petrochemical company to field a team showing they have no real care for people. I take to the track to point out this hypocrisy and stand for a better future.”

Cat, 21, “The fact that INEOS (and Shell) has been allowed to sponsor a team in the race around the Campsie Fells- which were engulfed in wildfires last month- is a disgrace and an insult to the both cycling community and the people of Scotland. “We cannot continue with business as usual while our country burns and our futures are ruined. Time is of the essence and we need to act like it. Scotland must stand up to Westminster and oppose all new oil and gas, and implement a fair transition now.”

Five activists on the scene were eventually taken into custody according to The Times UK.

SMALL NUMBERS, BIG IMPACT

hosted by XR NYC

September 28th, 6:30-7:30, EST

Four civil disobedience activists (including one rebel) blocked the road to the Burning Man festival. It generated hundreds of media stories.

Another rebel glued his feet to the floor of Arthur Ashe stadium and stopped a US Open semi-final game for 49 minutes. It generated thousands of media hits worldwide, inserted the topic of climate emergency where it is least seen - the sports pages.

Would you like to be a part of this new wave of climate actions, where a small number of brave people can make a big impact?

Come learn from these two rebels. It's not hard. It just needs a bit of pluck, a bit of creativity, and a straightforward message.

“What are our responsibilities at this time? Because of the fossil fuel industry, we are facing horrors of a magnitude never before experienced in our existence. Our government continues to lead us to the edge of no return. We must stand up and defend ourselves. No one else is going to do it. It must be us, if we want to live.
Our methods must be disruptive, and they must be nonviolent. Our actions are evidence-based, credible, and we have a plan. The only thing missing at this point in time is YOU!”
