Extinction Rebellion challenges Dutch State Water Cannons are Being Deployed as Corporal Punishment
On day 17 of the protests to end fossil fuel subsidies in the Netherlands, Extinction Rebellion is now fighting for climate justice on two fronts. Besides the continuing mass arrest on the A12, amounting to over 6800 arrests for the past 17 days, Extinction Rebellion has filed a letter of complaint with the court over the excessive violence being perpetrated by police over the past two weeks.

Nearly 3000 people arrested in the Netherlands A12 Blockade Continues - with Day 2 of shutdowns
Day 1 (September 9th) saw over 2400 arrested. Carice Van Houten was in attendance, along with a full orchestra, playing “Dies Irae - Day of Judgement.” 25,000 attended the festivities altogether, with 10,000 participating in the blockade itself. Very few of those arrested were kept long, and eventually everyone was released. However, many were surprised that the scientists were not immune to police repression. Although no injuries have been reported, there was definitely a display of state aggression.

XR Netherlands Locks down for A Hot ING Summer Tour
After 6 hours, Police were able to disperse 10 Extinction Rebellion members in Stad, the Netherlands. The group had locked down at the ING bank, with demands to cut ties with fossil fuels. Six had made a ring using concrete tubing and lockdown devices that could not be removed easily. Finally, the police began to use tools to break down their devices. The police chose not to arrest them, as the threat was reduced once the devices were removed.
Netherlands Arrests more than 1500 climate activists
More than 1,500 people were arrested during a protest by the Extinction Rebellion climategroup in The Hague. Some 7,000 people gathered to join the demonstration. The protest marks the seventh organized by Extinction Rebellion in the same section of roadway at The Hague. Several Dutch celebrities were among the protesters, including actor Carice van Houten(who plays Melisandre on Game of Thrones)
