Just Stop Oil Stop Blockade Bibby Stockholm Bus stopped protesting asylum seekers taken to “prison barge”

The bus was carrying asylum seekers to a facility known as Bibby Stockholm, a floating vessel that is more like a prison complex, and deemed a death trap by the Fire Brigade Union.

The bus carrying the asylum seeker through eventually passed, however, not without assaulting the protesters. During one excruciating 1 and a half minute video, the bus can be seen knocking the protesters out of the way. The situation was dangerous, and the protesters screams of terror were harrowing. Just as it is a life and death situation for the asylum seekers being shuffled into a floating prison, so too was it a life and death situation for protesters trying to stop the bus on the bridge.

A Just Stop Oil spokesperson said, “We know that our government’s plan for new oil and gas is going to lead to more people being displaced from their homes. Forced from where they have lived for generations due to the actions of our failing politicians. People coming to the UK must be met with common humanity, and not housed in prison ships. This is a slide towards concentration camps and we will not let it happen, not on our watch. We are taking action today to show love and solidarity with all people coming to this country.
Responding to displaced people with cruel schemes like Bibby Stockholm, the Rwanda plan, or filthy barrack housing is not a solution. The best way to prevent people from being forced out of their homelands is to stop our governments from planning and implementing climate disasters, while protecting people’s right to move and seek safety. The first step is stopping new oil and gas”

“What are our responsibilities at this time? Because of the fossil fuel industry, we are facing horrors of a magnitude never before experienced in our existence. Our government continues to lead us to the edge of no return. We must stand up and defend ourselves. No one else is going to do it. It must be us, if we want to live.
Our methods must be disruptive, and they must be nonviolent. Our actions are evidence-based, credible, and we have a plan. The only thing missing at this point in time is YOU!”
