This week, saw climate activists arrested at the White House on multiple days, demanding Biden Declare a Climate Emergency.
This comes on the heels of more condemnations from UN Secretary General, Antonio Guiterez, who said today, “Humanity is opening the Gates of Hell.” Indeed it looks like it, as Biden has not yet begun to phase out fossil fuels. In fact, we have news from MSNBC that he was not invited to the Climate Ambition Summit because of his refusal to stop approving more fossil fuel projects. Instead, his envoy John Kerry was sent. Earlier this year, John Kerry gave a thumbs up to Just Stop Oil supporter who ran onto the tennis courts to raise the alarm about climate on BBC Politics. But in this case, John Kerry’s presence is nothing to celebrate, and brings a new meaning to the term, Climate Envoy.

Claire, Extinction Rebellion DC, said, “I risked arrest that day because we need disruptive tactics and nonviolent action to make climate justice an issue that cannot be ignored, and because I have the privilege of being able to say that no personal consequence of my arrest comes anywhere close to outweighing the catastrophic impacts we are already facing and will continue to face in the climate and ecological crisis. This particular action targeted President Biden, who absolutely needs to be called out for lying to and endangering all of us with his litany of fossil fuel project approvals. I put my body on the line because I’m scared about our future on this planet and determined to help create a better one. I didn’t set out to become someone who gets arrested for climate activism, but I realized that if I continued down my path toward becoming a marine ecologist, I would spend my life witnessing and documenting the devastating impacts of climate change, and that the best thing I could do for the ecosystems and humans I care so much about was to give everything I can to fighting climate change and the systems that cause it.”
At press time, more arrests were taking place, this time organizer Kai Newkirk is arrested a second time at the White House - bringing the total closer to 20 for the past few weeks.

“What are our responsibilities at this time? Because of the fossil fuel industry, we are facing horrors of a magnitude never before experienced in our existence. Our government continues to lead us to the edge of no return. We must stand up and defend ourselves. No one else is going to do it. It must be us, if we want to live.
Our methods must be disruptive, and they must be nonviolent. Our actions are evidence-based, credible, and we have a plan. The only thing missing at this point in time is YOU!”
