September 7, 2023, Three Extinction Rebellion supporters disrupted the US Open event for 40 minutes.

This was done by 3 chanting very loudly from the stands. One supporter eventually glued his feet to the ground - to prevent his removal permanently.
Shayok Mukhopadhyay from Extinction Rebellion, said this, ““We're not protesting the event itself; we are not protesting tennis; we are not protesting the emissions that brought spectators to get here. That's not the point. We are here because we have to disrupt this public event as our last resort to draw public attention to the climate emergency we are facing today.”

While many folks outside the movement might be confused by these sudden disruptions, the climate situation is now so desperate, so large, that these kind of things are being recognized as one of the last and only resorts we can take. With that in mind, it bears asking why the women’s event, and not the men’s, since the men draw bigger crowds?
Laura Cole says this, “We have no corporate sponsors, which grants us the freedom to speak openly. However, it also means we operate on a tight budget. We simply cannot afford men's games due to the unfair pricing disparity; male games are significantly more expensive. This is yet another troubling consequence of patriarchy"
This protest is a prelude to the "Biden: End Fossil Fuels" mass march scheduled to take place in New York City on September 17th. Although Biden has finally made some progress in the protection of public and indigenous lands recently, we are currently on target to barrel record oil in 2024 which is inconsistent with a sustainable future.

SMALL NUMBERS, BIG IMPACT

hosted by XR NYC

September 28th, 6:30-7:30, EST

Four civil disobedience activists (including one rebel) blocked the road to the Burning Man festival. It generated hundreds of media stories.

Another rebel glued his feet to the floor of Arthur Ashe stadium and stopped a US Open semi-final game for 49 minutes. It generated thousands of media hits worldwide, inserted the topic of climate emergency where it is least seen - the sports pages.

Would you like to be a part of this new wave of climate actions, where a small number of brave people can make a big impact?

Come learn from these two rebels. It's not hard. It just needs a bit of pluck, a bit of creativity, and a straightforward message.

“What are our responsibilities at this time? Because of the fossil fuel industry, we are facing horrors of a magnitude never before experienced in our existence. Our government continues to lead us to the edge of no return. We must stand up and defend ourselves. No one else is going to do it. It must be us, if we want to live.
Our methods must be disruptive, and they must be nonviolent. Our actions are evidence-based, credible, and we have a plan. The only thing missing at this point in time is YOU!”
