Berlin Marathon Disrupted by Letzte Generation 6 supporters run onto track with orange paint, delaying 45,000 runners

They were soon tackled and dragged off the track.
This action is no surprise. Just a few days ago, Letzte Generation said in a tweet they were planning to disrupt the Berlin Marathon. This comes as surprising because normally, there is a bit of secrecy around disrupting high profile public events like sports. Nevertheless, on Sunday morning, Letzte Generation stopped the event before it started, as 45,000 runners awaited the start of the race. They were immediately tackled by volunteers and police. It’s fascinating how desperate the police appear to be in the video to get the demonstrators off the track, when the last thing we should be doing is taking our eyes off of the climate catastrophe we’re facing.

This comes as police have cracked down on Letzte Generation with pain techniques, including breaking a young lady's wrist, checkpoints at meeting points, where supporters are searched, house raids, jail times. In a show of support, the famed tyre extinguishers recently released a letter (which we’ve printed in our paper today) claiming to have the previous night deflated the tires of 300 SUVs to show solidarity.

Nevertheless, it is actions like this that have brought Letzte Generation to 90% name recognition in Germany, and the reason many think their demands of a 62mph (100kmh) speed limit, and a citizens assembly on climate is becoming more likely. Recently they raised 600k euros in 2 days to bolster their ranks. One thing is for sure, business as usual can’t continue. We’ll not survive if we don’t take action soon.
